| BIO: "Mijita"(mee-hee-tah) is a Spanish slang word used as a term of endearment for a small daughter. Mijita handbags began in the Spring of 2000 while I was recovering from a long battle with ovarian cancer. With no patience for television, I one day noticed a sewing machine in the corner of the room and what transpired next was my very first creation--a handbag. Although I can not pinpoint why I choose to make specifically a handbag, it was from that moment on that for me it became "bag-o-rama" as creating and sewing bags took my mind off the way I felt and gave me a darling incentive on which to focus my energy. Since cancer has taken away my ability to have children, I view my sewing endeavor as "my child, my little girl", hence the name Mijita. Now seven years old, my "child" has gone through many style changes but has and always will be something unique and original. Hopefully, my story is one of inspiration and hope. And, so that other cancer patients might stand a chance against this disease, a portion of all Mijita handbag sales is given directly to the ongoing research for ovarian cancer.
